Summary

If the Tuco call window says “Allow your microphone to call”, nobody was called. Your browser isn't allowed to use your microphone on app.tuco.ai. Allow Microphone (and Pop-ups) for app.tuco.ai in your browser's site settings, check that your computer lets the browser use the microphone, then click Try again.

Tuco places FaceTime Audio and phone calls from your browser, so it needs your microphone. Before it dials, the call window checks that it can hear you and that you'll hear the other person. If your browser won't share your microphone, Tuco doesn't place the call, so the person you're calling never picks up to silence. Instead you'll see the screen on the left. Fix the setting, and it turns into the one-tap Call on the right.

Tuco call window: “Allow your microphone to call. Chrome isn't allowed to use your microphone on app.tuco.ai, so we didn't place the call. Nobody was called.” with steps and Try again; and after allowing it: “Microphone allowed. Call”

The short version: allow Microphone (and Pop-ups and redirects) for app.tuco.ai, make sure your computer lets your browser use the microphone, then click Try again.

The call window already shows the steps for your browser. This page has them all, with screenshots.

Chrome on Mac or Windows

Fastest way: click the icon at the left of the address bar (next to app.tuco.ai) and turn Microphone on. Then click Try again in the call window.

When Chrome asks, choose Allow while visiting the site (on some versions, Allow on every visit). Allow this time ends when the call window closes, so Chrome would ask again on your next call.

Or open the site settings page directly. Copy this into the address bar (Chrome won't open it from a link):

chrome://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.tuco.ai

Set Microphone to Allow and Pop-ups and redirects to Allow. This is what it looks like out of the box, with Microphone on Ask and Pop-ups on Block:

Chrome site settings for app.tuco.ai: Microphone set to Ask (default), Pop-ups and redirects set to Block (default)

And this is what you want:

Chrome site settings for app.tuco.ai: Microphone set to Allow, Pop-ups and redirects set to Allow

Still blocked after that? Your computer may be blocking Chrome itself. See the Mac and Windows sections below.

Mac: let your browser use the microphone

macOS has its own switch for every app. If it's off, every site in that browser is blocked, whatever the site settings say.

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, or open it directly (your Mac asks to open System Settings).
  2. Turn on Google Chrome (or Safari, Edge, Firefox, whichever you use).
  3. If macOS asks, Quit & Reopen the browser, then start the call again.

Windows: let your browser use the microphone

  1. Open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone, or open it directly.
  2. Turn on Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone and Let desktop apps access your microphone. Chrome, Edge and Firefox count as desktop apps.
  3. Start the call again.

Microsoft Edge

Click the icon at the left of the address bar, open Permissions for this site, and set Microphone to Allow. Or paste this into the address bar. Edge opens its own settings page for it:

edge://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.tuco.ai

Set Microphone and Pop-ups and redirects to Allow.

Brave and other Chrome-based browsers

Same as Chrome, with the browser's own name at the start:

brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.tuco.ai

Safari on Mac

  1. With app.tuco.ai open, choose Safari → Settings for app.tuco.ai… in the menu bar.
  2. Set Microphone to Allow and Pop-up Windows to Allow.
  3. Click Try again in the call window.

You can also do it from Safari → Settings → Websites → Microphone, then pick Allow next to app.tuco.ai.

Firefox

  1. Click the microphone icon in the address bar.
  2. Next to Use the Microphone, click the × to clear Blocked.
  3. Click Try again, choose Allow, and tick Remember this decision.

To manage it later: Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Microphone → Settings… (paste about:preferences#privacy into the address bar).

On your phone

On a phone, the call window shows the steps for that phone:

iPhone and iPad

Safari:

  1. Tap the page menu (aA, or the icon at the left of the address bar), then Website Settings.
  2. Set Microphone to Allow.
  3. Tap Try again.

If Safari never asks: open the Settings app → Apps → Safari → Microphone and choose Allow or Ask.

Chrome, Edge or Firefox on iPhone: open the Settings app → Apps → your browser, and turn on Microphone. Then tap Try again and tap Allow when the browser asks.

Android

  1. Tap the icon at the left of the address bar, then Permissions.
  2. Set Microphone to Allow.
  3. Tap Try again.

If Chrome itself is blocked: Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions → Microphone → Allow only while using the app. On Android 12 and newer, also check that the Microphone access tile in Quick Settings isn't turned off.

Other messages you might see

  • “Your microphone is busy”: another app is using it (Zoom, Teams, Meet, another dialer). Leave that call, then click Try again.
  • “No microphone found”: plug in or connect a headset, check it shows up as your input device, then click Try again.
  • “Tap to start the call”: your browser wants one click before it plays call audio. Click Start call. Setting Sound to Allow for app.tuco.ai skips this next time.
  • “Couldn't reach your FaceTime line”: this one is on our side, not yours. Try again in a minute, and message us in chat if it keeps happening.

Frequently asked questions

  • Did the person I was calling get a call?

No. Before Tuco dials, it checks that it can use your microphone, play the other person's audio and reach your line. If any of those isn't ready, the call is not placed and the window says “Nobody was called.”

  • Why does Chrome ask me again on my next call?

You probably picked “Allow this time”. That permission ends when the call window closes. Pick “Allow while visiting the site” (on some versions, “Allow on every visit”), or set Microphone to Allow in Chrome's site settings for app.tuco.ai.

  • Why do I have to allow pop-ups?

Tuco opens each call in its own small window so you can keep working in the inbox. Browsers allow that window when you click Call, but setting Pop-ups and redirects to Allow for app.tuco.ai stops it from ever being blocked.

  • I allowed the microphone but it still says blocked. What now?

Your computer can block the browser itself. On a Mac, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and turn on your browser. On Windows, open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone and turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone. Then quit and reopen the browser.

  • Can I click the chrome://settings link?

No. Browsers don't let web pages open their own settings pages, so copy the address and paste it into the address bar. The Tuco call window has a Copy button for it.

  • It says my microphone is busy.

Another app is using it, often Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or another dialer. On Windows only one app can use a microphone at a time. Leave the call in the other app, then click Try again.
